Reiki Session

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a spiritual healing art with its roots in Japanese origin. The word ‘Reiki’ is made of two Japanese words – ‘Rei’ which means “God’s Wisdom or Higher Power” and ‘ki’ which is “life force energy”. Reiki, then, means “spiritually-guided life force energy”. While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not affiliated with any religion or religious practice. It is based on the idea that “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stressed. When our “life force energy” is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. This form of energy healing is intended to be used as a complementary and alternative therapy alongside more traditional medical or psychological treatments—not as a replacement for those treatments.

What does a Reiki session consist of?

Energy Healing appointments are 60 to 90 minutes. The healing session itself is about an hour, with 15 minutes at the beginning to review health history, answer questions, and set intentions, and 15 minutes at the end to discuss the experience.

Reiki is administered by a light, non-invasive touch with the practitioner’s hands placed and held on a series of locations on the head and front and back of the torso. Additional placements on the limbs are also done as needed. The placement of the hands is not intrusive, nor is any pressure ever applied. For the actual session, the client will rest comfortably on a massage table, fully clothed, with their shoes removed.

You may also request a session without physical touch, in which the practitioner’s hands gently pass approximately 3 to 4 inches above the physical body to assess and treat the individual’s energy fields, may also be requested. This does not make it any less effective for enhancing overall wellbeing and the self-healing process.

What might I experience?

Reiki treats the whole person which is the physical body, emotional body, the mind, and the spirit, creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation, and feelings of peace, security and well-being.

Many who have received Reiki say that a treatment feels like ‘a wonderful glowing radiance’ or ‘warmth that flows through and around’ them.

The experience of Reiki is subjective, changeable, and sometimes very subtle. People often experience heat in the practitioner’s hands, but sometimes the practitioner’s hands feel refreshingly cool. Other common experiences are subtle pulsations where the practitioner’s hands are placed or cascading waves of pulsations throughout the body.

As the session progresses, you will feel more relaxed. If you become uncomfortable, you can adjust your position at any time. Be sure to ask for anything that will add to your comfort, such as additional support under your knees or a blanket. This is your special time and your practitioner is there to help you.

How to

Prepare for your Reiki session.

Relax and reflect

Take some time to breathe, sit and reflect at least 30 minutes before your session, in order to recognize how your body is feeling and acknowledge your emotions, thoughts or physical reactions.

Eat and hydrate

Eat something light and keep hydrated prior to your session, it is important for your comfort and focus levels. If you are hungry or thirsty, you will be uncomfortable and unable to focus on the healing. However, try to avoid eating a heavy meal. Otherwise, your body will be using its energy to digest, rather than directing it at your treatment.

Be comfortable

It is recommended you wear comfortable clothes to your session as you will be laying down for the majority of your session. You will be required to remove your shoes, so bring socks if your feet get cold easily.

Don’t forget to use the restroom before the session begins and, if you are finding your position uncomfortable, please let me know so you can reshuffle and get more settled.

Reiki is love, love is wholeness,

wholeness is balance,

balance is well being,

well being is free from disease.
